Outlook 2010 starting in Safety Mode

Windows update - Outlook 2010 - KB3114409

Windows recently released a new update for Microsoft Office – Outlook 2010. This update is causing Outlook to start in safety mode. It will look like all your settings are gone and if you change anything then close Outlook, All your settings is once again gone.

This guide will show you how to get rid of that specific update.

For Windows 7:

  • Go into Control Panel > System and Security > Under Windows Update, Click Show installed updates > Search for “KB3114409” > Right click it when you find it and hit uninstall.

For Windows 8 and 10:

  • Click Start > Search for “Updates” and select “Check for Updates” > Advanced Properties > Show update log > Uninstall Updates > Search for “KB3114409” > Right click it when you find it and hit uninstall.

If the update has not yet been installed you can hide this update to prevent it from being installed.

For Windows 7:

  • Go into Control Panel > Windows updates > Choose updates to install > Find “KB3114409” and right click > Select hide

For Windows 8 and 10:

  • To temporarily prevent the update from being reinstalled until a new updated fix is available, a troubleshooter is available that provides a user interface for hiding and showing Windows Updates and drivers for Windows 10. You can obtain and run the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter here.

Run the software and follow the instructions. Eventually you will be able to choose “Hide Updates”. Find “KB3114409” and hide it.
